8-8-2014 Arabian Nights

This is the second time I have eaten here and both times I would give the food 5 stars.  Having never been to Arabia, I cannot vouch for the authenticity, but the food is made right there in front of your eyes and the taste is solid and it is not just another Gyro joint where they truck in the meat on that giant pressed artificial leg thing that they then saw meat off of for days.

This is a small un-fancy restaurant in the south park blocks not far from PSU (Portland State University).

2-8-2014 How do you Roll

We had a groupon to How do you roll.  I really love this place for great, fast, cheap sushi.  With a groupon it is even cheaper.

2-1-2014 El Sol Y la Luna

We had a groupon for this restaurant and we were in the neighborhood.  We decided to give it a try and we are glad we did.

The ambiance - The place was warm and cozy and they had a really good band playing.  The restaurant features a stage so they must have music there quite a bit.  This would be typical for Austin.

The Service - The service was great

The Food - We get a lot of Veggie Fajitas and these were top notch.  It had red peppers, onions, squash, red peppers, and it was seasoned nicely.  The beans and rice and garnish were very good as well.

All in all I would give this place 4.5 to 5 stars.

1-27-2014 Guerro Tacos

We had a groupon that said get $20 bucks of food.  We had paid 10 bucks for this groupon.  This was the second time we have been here and both times the food was really good.

The ambiance - the place has a nacho bar with several salsas.  They also have an adjoining outdoor area that often has live music.  Free chips are available there and they also grill out tacos outside.  There is a few outdoor seats and a lot of indoor seating.  I see a lot of large groups and the place is always busy.  I think the ambiance is festive and fun.

The service - the service is good solid tableside service as you would expect and they were knowledgeable and speedy.

The food - the rice has always been spot on and the beans are also good.  I have had the refried black beans and the charro beans.  I think I prefer the charro beans although both were very good.  Cara really loved her tacos.  We would give this restaurant 4.5 stars.

1-25-2014 Javelina

The Javelina is on Rainey street which is a sort of hipster area of Austin.  We had a gift certficate that said 10 off of 15.

Cara got the vege burger with sweet potato fries.  Eric got the pork and green chili smothered sweet potato fries.

The ambiance - this place has a huge outdoor area and that was what drew us in on this day.  Watch sitting under the trees because I saw a guy get shit on by a bird....LOL  Better him than us. 5 stars because it is nice to have a deck to hang out on.

The service - you order at the bar and get what you need at this place.  No silverware or condiments brought with your meal or anything.  Not really a bother, but Really?  Does this mean that with less service do I just need to tip less?  3 stars

The food - Cara gave her Vege Burger 5 stars.  I give my dish 3 stars because the sweet potato fries didn't do much for me.

1-22-2014 Toasties Sub on South Lamar

We found out that Toasties has a good pinball machine and they also have trivia on Wed.  We got lucky the week before and won a 25$ gift certificate.

The ambiance - the place is a sub shop, but also has a nice patio and a pinball machine.  They serve good beers at a reasonable price.  I give it 5 stars.

The service - the place is an order at the counter place, but they still give good friendly service.  Several of the staff like to hang out there and were playing trivia also.

The food - They have several veg sandwiches.  This week I tried the meatball sandwich.  I would give it 4 stars and the Med Veg Sandwich, I would give 5 stars.

1-21-2014 Pars Mediterranean Restaurant

We had a gift certificate that says take 15 off of 22.50.  We stopped by Pars to see what they have.

The ambiance - the place is a mom and pop and i understand they dont have a bunch of money to make a fancy place, but the place was worn and old looking.

The service - the service was fantastic and the guy that helped us really cared about his restaurant.

The food -  I got the Chicken Schwarma, a tabouli salad, and a spinach pie.  I wanted to give them 4 stars because the owner was nice and this is a mom and pop restaurant.  In the end I had to give it 3 stars.   I nicked them 1 star because the rice was very hard and they should not have sold that hard rice.

Cara gave the Falafel 3 stars as well.
